chelsea player rating!!

Player Ratings - Chelsea
We take a look at how Carlo Ancelotti's men did in the Community Shield 2009.
Cech - 6
Still wearing the protective head gear but he looks much more confident than last season.
Ivanovic - 4
Played on the right and was tortured by Nani's pace and trickery. Ancelotti took him off at halftime and immediately, the Blues started showing more menace.
Terry - 6
The Chelsea captain looked to have his mind somewhere else in the first half. Not the commanding sweeper we are used to seeing.
Cole - 5
Same old question. Where is the Cole of Arsenal fame? His overlapping runs seem to have gone missing since he moved to London.
Carvalho - 7
Always a threat going forward. His quick thinking covered a lot of ground in the first half when his defenders were often caught out by the Red Devils.
Mikel - 4
Supposed to be the midfield enforcer who breaks up play. Looked more like a headless chicken running with no aim.
Essien - 6
Full of energy like he always is. Took awhile to get into the game but once he did, Chelsea looked a more compact unit.
Malouda - 5
Will he ever get back to being the same player he was at Lyon? Judging from his performance today, no.
Lampard - 8
Allowed Fletcher and Carrick to dictate play in the first half. But the midfield dynamo got better as the game went on. His shot was a result of Foster's bad goalkeeping but still, you shoot, you score!
Anelka - 5
He had a very quiet game. Not quite the same form as last season where he was the league's top goal poacher.
Drogba - 9
The Ivorian striker knew Foster was prone to errors and he never stopped harassing the youngster into committing errors. Carvalho's goal was a result of Drogba's hardwork.
Substitutes
Bosingwa - 6
Gave Chelsea a more balanced look with his attacking prowess down the right in place of Ivanovic.
Ballack - 6
Came on and showed that he is ready to play the role of midfield enforcer when called upon.
Deco - 5
Seems like Ancelotti does not have Deco as part of his starting midfield diamond formation. Needs to show his class soon if he wants to stay in London.
Kalou - 6
Scored the winning penalty. Not enough time to make any significant impact

Malaysia Boleh!!!

Malaysia's two-goal wonder Yahyah
Malaysia's Mohd Amri Yahyah will share the spotlight with Michael Owen after he scored two goals against Manchester United.
The match would have been written off by even the most die-hard Malaysian supporter, as they took on the English Champions.
Yahyah, however, proved them wrong.
By scoring the only two goals for his side, the midfielder gave Malaysia a respectable score-line of two goals to three.
The 28-year-old had gained cult status in his country in 2002, when he scored a golden goal for his club Selangor in the Malaysian Cup Final against Sabah.
Adept in many positions, the Malaysian international has played as a winger, midfielder, defender and striker.
In 2005, Yahya guided his club to the Malaysian treble - Malaysian Premier League, Malaysian FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.
He has scored 36 goals for his club since he joined the side in 2001.
After his heroics for Malaysia in the game against the reigning English champions, Yahyah's name will now be etched in football fans' minds outside Malaysia.

Blues step up bid to retain Terry

As Chelsea look to secure John Terry, midfielder Michael Essien cannot wait to get back into action with the Blues.
The England captain, 28, is understood to have met with club officials, all keen to retain the services of the man dubbed 'Mr Chelsea'.
However, Manchester City are said to be ready to further test Terry's commitment with another £40million bid, which would include a head-turning £200,000-a-week package, plus more lavish bonuses, for the centre-back.
So far new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has landed only Russian Yuri Zhirkov, in an £18m deal, as a high-profile signing - a move dwarfed by European rivals Real Madrid's summer spending spree and also comparatively little compared to the ambitious transfers pulled off by City in their bid to break into the top four.
Chelsea, though, are likely to look to further bolster the first-team squad, with Ancelotti ready to raid his old club for AC Milan's Andrea Pirlo, before the new campaign starts against Hull on August 15 - a week after facing Manchester United in the Community Shield at Wembley.
By then Chelsea, who head off on a four-game tour of the United States later this week, hope the speculation over Terry's future will be put to bed once and for all.
Midfielder Essien cannot wait for the action to start all over again, having missed a large chunk of the last season because of a serious knee injury.
"I have had a fantastic break and I am looking forward to the new season already," Essien said on his personal website, www.michaelessiengh.com.
"I am still buzzing from the FA Cup win and Ghana's back-to-back wins in the World Cup qualifiers."
Essien added: "They were tough games [last season], but we came through very well and I am hoping to carry the same form into the new season starting in the US.
"I am also hoping for an injury-free season and so I can contribute fully to the team.
"At the end of the season I expect us to be up there with the best."
Chelsea were unfortunate to be knocked out of the Champions League last season to a late away goal by eventual winners Barcelona in the semi-finals, but recovered to send temporary boss Guus Hiddink off with the FA Cup.
In the Barclays Premier League, however, the Blues were seven points behind United in third place as they missed out on the domestic title for the third year running.
However, midfielder Michael Ballack believes Chelsea's lack of transfer activity this summer could give them a head start over United, who have lost both Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.
"It is our target every year to win the league and we are confident about winning the title," said Ballack.
"I think we had a good season last year, but United have played at a really high level the last few years.
"They made it really difficult for us to win the League in 2007 and 2008, but we were really close behind and last season we also finished behind Liverpool, who had a strong season.
"There are a few moments which decide every championship but we are confident it will be different next time. We have a very experienced squad.
"We haven't added a lot of new players, so we don't need much time to get into our rhythm."
Frank Arnesen, meanwhile, feels stepping into the role of sporting director at Stamford Bridge will be "nothing new".
The Dane has taken up his new role with immediate effect after working as chief scout and director of youth and development at the Barclays Premier League club.
Arnesen, who joined the football club board in May, moved to Chelsea from rivals Tottenham in 2005 and continued to work at the club under successive managers Jose Mourinho and Luiz Felipe Scolari.
He told the club's official website, www.chelseafc.com: "I have done it myself for 10 years with PSV Eindhoven and on the Continent it is more normal than not.
"In England we have not seen it, although I did do it at Spurs at one time, but actually there are not a lot of clubs who are doing this."
Arnesen, who will continue his role within the youth set-up added: "But if you see how big the clubs are nowadays, there are so many things that you have to arrange yourself, not only the managers but also the clubs, in marketing, in sponsorship, the stadiums, you have to get a lot of money in, you have to try to do the best you can do to get a club like Chelsea running.
"You need specialists around the place and I have done it more than 10 years so it is not new for me."

BPL Heroes and Zeroes

Is Carlos Tevez a hero or a zero for rejecting Man United for Man City? Eugene YS Han takes a closer look ...
HERO?
Carlos Tevez is brave (or some say, foolish) to reject the possibility of more silverware and glory at Manchester United for the relative uncharted waters at Manchester City.
Not many players have the balls and guts to reject Sir Alex Ferguson - not once, not twice, but four times! The Old Trafford faithful also tried their best to persuade El Apache to stay on.
But Tevez had other ideas.
What Tevez wants, however, is something he cannot get at United or even Chelsea. He wants a guaranteed first-team place. He may not be the most glamourous of strikers but he has the strike-rate to prove his worth. 15 goals in all competition for United last season is no mean feat considering he was the fourth-choice hitman for the Red Devils - behind the departed Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov. With Daniel Welbeck and Federico Macheda knocking on Ferguson's door, and not forgetting Michael Owen, Tevez knows his place in the first-eleven is not a given.
At City, he will become the main man, just as he did at West Ham. He has been acknowledged as a 'trier' and what City need is exactly this type of player. City's away record was abysmal last season but it could change with Tevez leading the line. The diminutive Argentine loves a scrap and he will inject some muscle into City's line-up. Tevez could well be worth ten away points for City next season.
ZERO?
If you thought Michael Owen's defection to Old Trafford is treason to Liverpool fans, how will United fans feel about one of their more popular strikers joining their local rivals City? This is the ultimate betrayal to United fans who had fawned over Tevez and tried their darnest to keep the player at the club.
Tevez is no stranger to controversies throughout his footballing career. His partnership with Media Sports Investments has bought him various complications but disaster to the clubs who 'signed' him. It's something West Ham and Corinthians supporters can attest to.
His move to City is questionable. No doubt City gave him a huge payday - £150,000 a week but he can get a similar package at Chelsea as well (if he asked nicely). The real reason is, perhaps, Tevez has an eye on the World Cup next season. With City not involved in European competition, Tevez will not have to play too many games. He will make sure he peaks at the end of the season and be ready to play for Argentina in South Africa.
But City want to be in the top-four next season - they have to get into the Champions League to justify their immense financial outlay. For a player who has a vested interest to playing for his country, will Tevez be as motivated enough to give his all for Man City next season?
VERDICT:
I do think Tevez is a good fit for Manchester City. They already have a lot of flair in the squad so they need grafters. That's why Mark Hughes went all out to get Gareth Barry and Tevez. They might not be the most technically-gifted players in the world but they can scrap and fight for every 50-50 ball. Tevez is also courageous enough to spur another chance to accumulate more trophies at Old Trafford. He just wanted to get out of the comfort zone.
For City, signing Tevez from rivals United also sends a strong message to the rest of the Premier League - that they mean business next season

Ancelotti: I deserve R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Carlo Ancelotti believes his body of work as a midfield enforcer with two European Cup winner’s medals will earn him respect.
"As a player I was not always quiet," said Ancelotti. "On the field I was a fighter and I didn't want the opponent to come into my territory. Now for me it is about the players having respect for my position as the coach."
"I have to make the decisions and at the same time I have respect for the players. This is my system to bring forward a relationship."
Carletto's present squad will have to adapt to their new bosses' way of working and will have to display a work rate to match.
"My message to work is to stay every day on the field. To work hard at training, that is my passion," added the former Milan boss. "My vision is to have players who can play well together and stay well together."
Ancelotti is set to miss out on the services of Didier Drogba for four Champions League games in the upcoming campaign, but has said that he understands the striker's psyche, given that he's a former player.
Drogba was banned for a expletive-filled tirade at the referee and at television audiences after last season's Champion's League loss to Barcelona.
Ancelotti said: "I was a player and it can happen, where in a moment, in a game, the mind is not cold, you get carried away."
The first order of the day for Ancelotti will be to persuade John Terry not to leave for Manchester City.
Terry's representatives met owner Roman Abramovich over the weekend

Anelka raring to go for Blues

Nicolas Anelka is ready for action in the preseason, having reported back for training at Chelsea’s Cobham training centre.
Anelka began his annual break later than many of his colleague on June 4, playing for France after his club campaign ended with an FA Cup final victory over Everton at Wembley on May 30.
"Yes, it was short so you don't have so much time to lose your condition and take on weight," Anelka told Chelsea's official website.
"The holiday was too short! I enjoyed it, it was short but it was good to have holidays, I went to see my family in the West Indies and then went to Dubai."
"It is good to be back with everyone, and I think it will be a nice season."
Anelka insists that new boss Carlo Ancelotti is a great asset to the Blues and will guide the west London club to greater heights.
"The new manager is good, he speaks well with everybody and is trying to learn the English language. You can see from the training we have had that he is good," the Frenchman concluded.

Chelsea Playmaker.. Deco..I hope you will stay

Deco says he is willing to stay at Chelsea this season, but says things must change at Stamford Bridge.
Portugal international Deco had been linked with a move away from the Premier League club following a largely disappointing debut campaign.
Though Deco scored in his first two games for the Blues, he struggled with injuries and then made just three appearances during Guus Hiddink's short reign.
He had expressed a desire to be reunited with his former Porto boss Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, however the Italian champions are not willing to meet Chelsea's asking price.
The Brazilian-born playmaker is now prepared to stick with the Blues before seeking a move back to his homeland.
"I am getting tired of Europe, but out of respect for Chelsea, I will stay on this continent a while longer," Deco told A Bola.
"I have some offers from other clubs, but if I stay at Chelsea it's important that some things change because things happened last year that I did not like.
"I have had some adaptation problems in England and I've been sidelined with several injuries."

Ancelotti: I can be special too

New Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti insists he can be as popular as former boss Jose Mourinho.
The Italian is the fourth manager in the Stamford Bridge hot seat since Mourinho left in September 2007 - having won every domestic competition.
Only the Champions League crown eluded the 'Special One' during his successful spell at Chelsea.
Since then Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Ray Wilkins and Guus Hiddink have all taken turns in charge.
Now Ancelotti is determined to become as popular and as successful as Mourinho and is not afraid of the challenge ahead.
"I think Mourinho is a great coach because he won a lot of trophies but it's not a war between Mourinho and me," said Ancelotti.
"It's normal that he is popular in Chelsea because he won the Premier League but I also want to win it. I also want to be popular with the fans.
"I'm not sure if the period of time here will be long or short but I want the people to remember me."
Ancelotti's most immediate chance of winning over the fans is to end the uncertainty over the future of his captain John Terry.
The defender is still being courted by Manchester City although Chelsea insist that he is not for sale at any price.
City have already had a £30million bid rejected by the Blues but are expected to return with an even higher offer if they feel relations between Terry and the club become strained.
Terry returned from his summer break yesterday and held talks with Ancelotti at the club's Cobham training ground.
He is also believed to have spoken with club director Eugene Tenenbaum, although chief executive Peter Kenyon and owner Roman Abramovich were not in attendance.
Chelsea have already scoffed at suggestions that they failed to keep Terry in the loop over City's interest and insist there has been no major change to the player's stance since City first declared their interest last January.
A month later, Terry issued a statement saying he wanted to remain with the club for life and thanked Chelsea for their support.
The Blues do not feel there is any reason to issue another statement, a view seemingly shared by Terry, who has so far remained publicly silent on the issue.
It is difficult to see Terry giving up another chance to win the Champions League by moving to City and even his alleged anxiousness over the lack of quality additions to the Chelsea squad is unlikely to force him out of the door.
Instead, he is more likely to press Chelsea, via his advisor Aaron Lincoln, to offer him a new, more lucrative contract, with wages closer to Manchester City's much reported £200,000-a-week.
Chelsea remain confident that they will succeed in bringing more quality players to the club before the transfer window closes next month and will start negotiations over a new deal for Terry very shortly.
The club are almost certain to improve the defender's contract before City's billionaire owners return with another bid.
After the FA Cup final victory over Everton last May, Terry said he hoped the club would bring in players of the quality and class of David Villa and Franck Ribery.
But so far, goalkeeper Ross Turnbull, teenage striker Daniel Sturridge and Russia left-back Yuri Zhirkov have been the only additions to a squad that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season and won the FA Cup.
